Give It Up King James Lovers

I am so sick of hearing Cavs fans trying to say that Lebron James is the best player in the league. This is so absurd, if you have played basketball and know anything about it then it should be obvious that he is not. Kobe Bryant is the best player in the world point blank, no questions asked. There isn't a single weakness in his game. He can shoot, drive, jump, rebound, pass, play lock down D, and he is a late game assassin. He is clearly more talented than Lebron, KG, or anyone else you want to throw out there. The man scored 81 points in a game!!!!!! There is no one else in the NBA that is capable of coming close.
Don't get me wrong Lebron is a great talent and he has an extremely bright future, but Kobe is still the best. Kobe has the most complete skill set, maybe ever. YES I SAID EVER!!! That means better than Jordan. Yes Yes even better than the savior of basketball ball himself. Kobe is every bit as talented if not more than Jordan. Most will find this unimaginable. Kobe better than Jordan? Am I crazy? Certainly not Kobe is the most skilled player EVER!!!!! The man is crazy good. His moves are insane. The things he is able to do are flat out amazing. If you don't believe me check out this.

Short Stay For Tennessee

A day after being tabbed numero uno in both the AP and USA Today college basketball polls, Tennessee lost to #14 Vanderbilt 72-69 on Tuesday night. Tennessee came in after the big win over previous #1 Memphis. Tennessee looked flat, and completely out of sync. Tonight I realized what a awful gym Vanderbilt has. The fans are too far away from the court and the benches are on the baselines instead of the sideline. This is absolutely absurd, the coaches are unable to communicate with the players when they are on the opposite side of the court and is just not logical. Who designed this gym and what were they thinking? The fans are 25 yards from the court! VANDY PLEASE GET A NEW GYM !

Houston We Have A 7'6" Problem

The Houston Rockets have been playing great lately, winning 12 straight. This is due in large part to Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady's productivity. Yao has been having a terrific season, averaging 22 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. But today the Rockets learned that they will be without Yao for the rest of the season due to a stress fracture in his left foot. This is a crushing blow to the Rockets' chances at an NBA Title. The NBA's hottest team, the Rockets, will now struggle to even get into the playoffs. Who will replace Yao in Houston's lineup you might ask? Well none other than 80 year old Dikembe Mutombo! HA!!! The Rockets MUST sign a center, Mutombo is way past his prime and if the Rockets want any chance at all at making the playoffs they better make a move quick or their season could go south real quick!

Monday's Headlines

  • First off I want to shoot down all you Cavs fans that think that their recent trade with the Bulls and Sonics put them at the top of the Eastern Conference. This is absurd, who did Cleveland get thats going to make them an automatic contender? If Cleveland is banking on a trade for Ben Wallace, Wally Szcerbiack, Joe Smith and Delonte West to lead them to a title they are in some trouble. Ben Wallace is washed up and has no offensive skills at all, wally can shoot but plays zero D, Joe Smith is a strong defender and rebounder but his getting old and isn't a high caliber player, and West is an average player at best. Detroit and Boston are still the top 2 teams in the east even with this trade.
  • Tennessee ranked first in both college basketball polls for the first time EVER.
  • The LA Lakers have now won 8 straight and 9 of 10 with Gasol. They are rolling on all cylinders and Kobe is doing his best Jordan impersonation.
  • Darren McFadden ran a 4.33 forty; he jumped 10 feet, 8 inches in the broad jump; and jumped 33 inches in the vertical leap. After recent scrutiny due to off the field troubles, McFadden made quite a statement at the NFL Combine. All three of these stats are better than those of Adrian Peterson's last year. SCARY.
  • LAST BUT NOT LEAST ..... Team Go Go Gadget's tourney run begins tonight at the Ark at 9.

Come Witness History

Tonight at 9:50 at the Ark me and my intramural teammates will try to avenge a 2 point loss from last week. I was unable to attend last weeks game due to prior commitments but the team held strong and competed well coming up just short of a victory, with only 5 players and against the team leading our division. So tonight I look for a solid performance and of course a Go Go Gadget Victory. I should be rested seeing that its been two weeks since my last game (a 104-13 rout i must add). Tonight should be nothing short of greatness, I'm going to say a 95-34 victory for the good guys. Also anyone wanting to witness intramural history come watch our game tonight, as I'm going to get the single game scoring record TONIGHT yes yes I said it INTRAMURAL SCORING RECORD IS MINE! I'm going to say around 65 tonight. So consider yourself warned.

NBA Trade Deadline: The Aftermath

Going into today the Lakers had my vote as the best move before the trade deadline in getting Pau Gasol for NOTHING! Now that the deadline has came and gone I still feel that LA made the best trade. There have been several big moves i.e Kidd to Dallas and Shaq to Phoenix, and several smaller deals such as the Spurs acquiring Kurt Thomas. It seemed every team that had a legit shot at getting to the Finals were trying to make a big move to get their respected teams over the top except the Cavs, King James was forced to sit and watch LA, Phoenix, Dallas, and San Antonio all add quality players to their rosters. Well today James finally got his wish for some help. Wait let me rephrase that the Cavs made a trade but if I was King James I wouldn't be jumping for joy or anything as they acquired Ben Wallace, Joe Smith, Bulls 2009 2nd-round pick, Wally Szczerbiak,
and Delonte West via a 3-team 11 player deal involving the Cavs, Bulls, and Sonics. The Cavs sent Drew Gooden, Larry Hughes, Cedric Simmons, and Shannon Brown to the Bulls. They also sent Ira Newble and Donyell Marshall to the Sonics. This surely isn't a blockbuster move like LA and Phoenix pulled off but it will give the Cavs some rebounding and defensive help along with Wally stretching the D with his outside shooting. Do I think this makes the Cavs the favorite in the East? Absolutely not. The Celtics and Pistons are still my picks to be in the Eastern Conference Finals but the Cavs and Magic will certainly make it interesting.

Now its time to stop all the talking and see who really emerges as title contenders.
I say send the MVP and Title to LA right now! Kobe is on a mission and that team is scary good!

#3 UNC Rolls, #4 Duke and #24 Kansas State Stumble

  • North Carolina entered tonights game 24-2 and began its 5th straight game without star point guard Ty Lawson. With Lawson still out with a high ankle sprain, Hansbrough put the Heels on his back and carried them to a 84-70 win. The three time All American finished with 32 points and 12 boards. Ellington added 21 points as the Heels move to 25-2 and 10-2 in the ACC. Next up for UNC is Wake Forest on Sunday in Chapel Hill.
  • Duke, coming off a loss to Wake, took on Miami Fl. Duke entered the game 22-2 and ranked 4th in the country. But Miami wasn't impressed, they jumped out to a big lead in the second half and held off a late run by Duke to gain a 96-95 victory over coach k and his dukies. The Hurricane victory was the first against Duke in 45 years! YES 45! Big win for the Canes ! Props to James Dews , a sophomore guard for UM, a former teammate of mine.
  • Freshman phenoms Michael Beasley and Bill Walker, led Kansas State against an average at best Nebraska team. Beasley maybe underestimated Nebraska just a tad, before the game he said that he "might just go for 50 tonight" well..... lets say he didn't quite get there, his team barely did for that matter. Beasley was only able to muster 17 points. Walker with only 12. Nebraska edged out K-State 71-64. Beasley was able to tie former Syracuse forward Carmelo Anthony for the most double doubles by a freshman.
  • #1 Memphis stayed unbeaten as they got a 97-71 victory over Tulane
  • #2 Tennessee beat Auburn 89-70. Setting up a 1 vs 2 matchup Sat. night.
  • #8 Butler beat Illinois-Chicago
  • #10 Wisconsin took care of Illinois
  • #17 Michigan State waxed Penn State. Props to Raymar Morgan
  • Rounding out the top 25, #24 Marquettte beat St Johns

Kobe and Lakers Ruin Shaq's Debut In Phoenix

All the talk was about Shaq's first game with his new team, the Phoenix Suns. And who is the perfect team for Shaq's debut, the Los Angeles and Kobe Bryant. Shaq was surprisingly in a lot better shape than expected. He was able to play almost 30 mins and looked strong down the stretch. He started off slow with some missed free throws and turnovers but played decent in the second half. One area that he seemed to really help was in creating opportunities for Amare to get offensive rebounds and shots. Amare excelled next the the big fella, getting 37 pts and pulling down 15 boards. All in all Shaq played better than expected but not good enough to contend for a title. The Suns have to learn to play some D, to give up 130 points is ridiculous and no team will ever win a title like that. With Shaq and the Suns garnering all of the attention before the game, Kobe seized the moment and played brilliant. As he does in every cluth situation Bryant showed why he is the best player in the world. When he wants to score, he scores, there is nothing anyone can do about it. He can get his shot off where ever and when ever he pleases. He dropped 41 going16-25 from the field. Odom and Gasol also had great games. Overall very impressive performance by LA, they seem to be clicking on all the right cylinders. As long as Kobe's finger stays "ok" and Bynum comes back healthy, the should be the Western Conference's rep for the Finals. Hell right now they are playing the best basketball in the league, and this is without Bynum. Its scary to think what is possible when he gets back!

Time To See How Much Fuel The "Diesel" Has Left In The Tank

This seems like eons ago, a happy Shaq and Kobe together. Its been three struggling seasons since the departure of Shaq for Miami, but finally the Lakers have got the pieces around Kobe to be a championship caliber club. The first few years without Shaq looked bleak for Bryant, having to carry the team with 40 and 50 point games just to keep it close. Then there was Bryant's legal troubles, everything seemed to be on the decline for Bryant. As for Shaq nothing could have been better, pairing with Dwayne Wade the Heat captured a NBA Championship in 2006. It was going great for Shaq, he was living life and just being the normal "Shaq". Then came this season, Bryant's future in LA at the start of the season looked dismal. There were trade rumors swirling around the world's best player, but nothing was ever executed. Instead, the Lakers began to gel and young Andrew Bynum started showing signs of brilliance. Then in a stunning move Laker GM Mitch Kupchak was able to aquire former All-Star Pau Gasol from Memphis for basically nothing. This shot the Lakers up the Western Conference totem pole. Now the Lakers are considered a top 3 contender for the title. As for Shaq this season hasn't started too well. After an injury plagued and poor start to the season for the Heat, Miami decided to ship O'Neal to Phoenix for Shawn Marion. Many have questioned the Suns (myself being one) logic in bringing in the 7 ft 330 pounder, especially with the up and down system they run. But the Suns and Shaq both seem to think this is gonna be what puts them "over the top". Tonight is our first glimpse of Shaq in Phoenix and how convenient he will be going against Kobe and the Lakers. Should be a very entertaining game, but I have to go with my boys, Lakers by 8.

Who's Next In The NBA Swap Meet

It all started with Mitch Kupchak's grand theft of Pau Gasol ( and from what I hear Mitch isn't done yet but ill get back to that), and it sure has snowballed since. Once the Lakers acquired Gasol, you could hear all of the Western Conference GMs take a collective gasp. Since then each contender has feverishly tried to get that "next piece to the puzzle". Next in line to booster their roster was the Phoenix Suns, they put a deal together which sent Shawn Marion in return for Shaq. Then in a lesser known deal the Spurs picked up Damon Stoudamire to give some depth to their backcourt. Now its Jason Kidd back to Dallas where it all began for him. The question is who's next? The Nuggets have said to be in talks with the Kings, trying to acquire Ron Artest. There are grumblings from Laker Land that Mitch is back on the phone lines trying to put together a deal that would send Laker Lamar Odom to the Wizards for All- Star guard Caron Butler. This would be Caron's second stint in LA, hopefully an improvement from his first run. A little over a day until the deadline, so there will be plenty of possible scenarios hinting the espn airwaves in the next 30 some hours, so stay tuned.

Trash Talkin'

Steve Nash has never been associated with talking a little trash but he is now. His new signature shoe, "Trash Talk" is made from "trash", well the scraps left from shoe manufacturing.

March Madness Right Around The Corner

Its almost that time of year again, a time for buzzer-beaters, cinderella teams, and office pools. A time where stars are born and dreams are crushed. For me its the most exciting time of the year. This year looks to be as intriguing as any, with the parody in college basketball it is impossible to name a final four at this point. You have your usuals to chose from such as: North Carolina, Duke, UCLA, and Kansas. But there are several other teams that have a good chance of making the Final Four, Memphis, Stanford, Tennessee, Xavier, and Texas all have the talent to get there. Every Sunday until the brackets are revealed I will update my field of 65 , so check back periodically to see if your team will be dancing in march or will be on the wrong side of the bubble.

Van Horn The Real Winner In Kidd Deal

Finally the deal to send Jason Kidd back to the Mavs is official. Kidd along with Malik Allen and Antoine Wright will be Mavs, while Dallas sends 24-year-old point guard Devin Harris, center DeSagana Diop, swingman Trenton Hassell, guard Maurice Ager, Van Horn via sign-and-trade, first-round draft picks this June and in 2010 and $3 million in cash. Most will argue about who got the better deal Dallas or New Jersey but I'm saying the best deal went to Keith Van Horn. Van Horn who now lives in Colorado, has been out of basketball for almost two years now, seems like 10 but thats probably because he never lived up to the hype coming out of Utah. But I have to say Keith you certainly know how to get paid. Whether you are deserving or not, you still have always found a way to get way more cash for the least bit of talent. This deal is no exception, Van Horn looks to receive about 4 million for merely signing some paper work, no training camps, no practice, hell not even games, all he had to do was sign a contract. Kudos to you Keith. As for the rest of the deal I give the Nets an A-, landing Devin Harris and clearing cap space, along with two first round picks and 3 million cash is a pretty good loot for a 35 year old. As for the Mavs, its too early to judge, this could end up being a great deal for them or it could end up being horrible. Getting Jason Kidd is never a negative, but he is 35 and on the decline, so if the Mavs don't win it this year or next this deal will be very bad for them. In my opinion Dallas gave up way too much to get a 35 year old Jason Kidd(5players, 2 picks, and 3 mil) but if they win the title I might change my opinion. In my eyes it is still LA, San Antonio, and Phoenix at the top of the west but thats why they play the games.

Enough with the Steroids Investigation

I am so tired of hearing about the steroids investigation in baseball that I would actually rather watch baseball than listen to this nonsense. Everyone knows that the vast majority of MLB players have juiced once or twice in their careers, so why does the media feel the necessity to repeat what everyone knows. We know Barry juiced, we know Clemens juiced, we know Conseco did, we know almost everyone did, so why is it that every time I turn on ESPN its "Bonds indicted", "Clemens guilty of perjury?". Baseball has went from the American pastime to the American laughing stock. Another thing that really gets me is that the United States Government is taking time away from more important issues to find out who was jacked up on roids in the MLB, that is such a joke. This investigation by the Senate is flat out ridiculous, your telling me that the Senate has that much time on their hands that then can listen to Roger Clemens plead that he was throwing 105 mph fastballs at age 42 "all natural" without HGH or any other steroid. Which brings me to my next point, Roger who are you trying to fool? Everyone that knows anything about baseball knows that you don't hit your prime at 38 years old. Give it up, admit , apologize, and lets all forget about this mess.

What is Huckabee thinking?

For everyone talking about how off the deep end Britney Spears is, take a listen to Mike Huckabee, he is right there with her. Amending the constitution to be in "god's standards", are you freaking serious Mike. There are so many things wrong with this statement. I thought the United States was built on principles of freedoms. Freedom of Religion being one of those and Mike Huckabee thinks that he is going to become president and start running the country based on the bible. It is remarkable to think that he is even a candidate for the presidency. Not only is he a brain washed super Christian, he is trying to make us the same. Anyone that believes that Huckabee's ideas are good ones are severely uneducated. It will be a travesty to our country if he is somehow on the republican ticket as the vice president. Another thing that I do not understand with Huckabee is why in the hell he is still running? He is mathematically eliminated, yet he still believes he can win the nomination? He believes that divine intervention will help make it possible. What a joke! Huckabee do us all a favor and go back to being a minister and stay the hell out of politics.

King James shines in New Orleans

Lebron James' many skills were displayed brilliantly tonight in the 2008 NBA All-Star game in New Orleans. James led the East All-Stars to a 134-128 victory. James won the MVP honors finishing with 27 points, 8 rebounds, and 9 assists, just shy of a triple double. His court vision and ability to get to the rim were key in the East's victory. Ray Allen was also key to the East's win. Allen had 28 points, knocking down three big triples and a couple free throws in the end, sealing the victory for the East. The young guards were the bright spots for the West, Chris Paul and Brandon Roy looked like NBA veterans bringing the West within striking distance in the end. Paul had 16pts and 14dimes, Roy finished with 18 points and 9 boards. The West team was down a superstar in Kobe Bryant, Bryant started the game and collected one rebound before being subbed out about three minutes into the game. Bryant then hit the showers and sat on the bench icing his finger for the rest of the game. All and all it was a pretty entertaining game, now the real excitement begins, the race for the playoffs.

5 Reasons to Watch the NBA All-Star Game

  1. The best players in the world on the same court, something exciting is bound to happen.
  2. Kobe Bryant! Any chance you get to see this man play you should take advantage. Although he probably wont play long due to his finger injury, he still should be good for something worth seeing.
  3. All of the young talent in the NBA. Brandon Roy, Chris Paul,Dwight Howard, and Lebron James are certainly worth tunning in to see.
  4. Steve Nash and Jason Kidd. Both are magicians with the ball, both are must sees especially with the talent each will be surrounded by.
  5. Charles Barkley, listening to Sir Charles' outlandish comments are worth watching in itself.

This is always one of the more entertaining sporting events of the year, and I'm sure this year in the big easy will not disappoint. It will be a high scoring, defenseless, highlight filled game as usual.

Enjoy the festivities

NBA Slam Dunk Competetion

All I can say is "WOW", this year really brought the excitement and showmanship back to the Slam Dunk Competition for the first time since Vince Carter in 2000. Dwight Howard's dunks that he created were one of a kind, never been seen before dunks. His creativity and attitude really got the fans involved. His freakish ability was clearly shown tonight. For a 7-footer to be that athletic and to be able to jump that high is just flat out insane. He has very rare athletic ability and size. Think early 90's Shaq mixed with Shawn Kemp's aggressiveness and hops. He is sure to be one of the top players in the league for the foreseeable future.
Props the Gerald Green, who finished second. He threw down some dunks that probably would have won most years. But Howard was just unbeatable tonight.
